Studio & World Background

House House spent roughly six years building Big Walk, starting during pandemic lockdowns when in-game meetings were the only way the team stayed connected. The island translates the coastal bushland of Wilsons Promontory National Park in Victoria, Australia into the studios signature friendly style — grassy headlands, teal water, and red-roofed structures that read like toys.

The soundtrack comes from Sam Gill and Luke Neher under the name AKSFX, written to live inside the world: music drifts out of speakers and objects rather than hovering over the scene. Announced at The Game Awards in December 2023, the game arrived on August 4, 2026 and passed one million copies sold within its first week.

Communication Systems

SystemHow It Behaves
Proximity voice chatVoices fade across distance, echo down corridors, muffle through walls, and crackle through walkie-talkies. Facing matters: talk toward people or they barely hear you.
Arms and gesturesPoint, wave, gesture, or flail — the physical fallback when words fail or distance wins.
Walkie-talkiesLong-distance voice for split groups, but only the unit in hand transmits.
Flares and lightLaunches and beams that mark positions across valleys; laser pointers paint the night sky.
Leaving messagesGroups coordinate by marking routes and objects for trekkers who come through later or lag behind.
Day-night darknessNightfall hides friends until flashlights, bulbs, and beacons go on — darkness itself becomes a communication problem.
